In 2019, the first album “Serpente”, a subtle alliance of African music and jazz, laid the foundations for a new sound carried by the atypical instrumentation of the Akagera trio. Their new album “Traverse” is a sound recording of the inner travel diary of the three adventurous musicians forced to put down their suitcases.
From improvisation sessions, they took the time over three years to collectively compose a repertoire reflecting the diversity of their backgrounds and influences: classical and contemporary music for Benoit, mixed music from South America and the Caribbean for Stéphane. and African rhythms and Brazilian grooves for David while reaffirming their common passion for jazz.
Experienced, experimental, instrumental and viscerally original, this new trio meanders to the confines of a fierce and playful jazz with completely new orchestrations.
Imagined as a nod and a tribute to the album AKAGERA, released in 1980 by the trio Humair, Jeanneau, Texier, this new trio fully intends to plow its own furrow.
Like their illustrious elders, the Akagera Trio draws its influences from African music (Akagera is the name of a nature reserve in Rwanda, on the Tanzanian border) but also from jazz and so-called repetitive contemporary music.
